Not allowing sleep

I've disabled sleep on my MacPro tower for a few reasons. I use my machine to feed music to my Sonos system, if I wake my computer during a power failure, my backup battery/surge protector gets overloaded and shuts down, and I also run backup software at night. My question is, without putting my machine to sleep, should I always try to shut down at night? Or leave the machine on all the time without allowing sleep?

Thanks.
