iphone 4s is not ringing.

I have an iPhone 4s. Lately it has been having problems. Most times after I have switched from silent to ringing... it does not ring... and does not even vibrate. I have missed many calls because of this. I also have another problem that has popped up. When on the messaging app... the little microphone icon has been grayed out. It just started doing that a few days ago.
