Can I use my ps3 as a DVD drive
Is there a way to do this? Do I just use the USB?

Negative. There isn't a way to present the drive of your PS3 as a shared DVD drive to computers on your network.
EDIT: Sorry. To be more clear, unless you install some version of Linux on your PS3, sharing the drive from the default PS3 environment is not possible. Also, depending on the age of your PS3, installation of the Linux package might also be locked down.
