My iPad is very slow to open web sites or searches. Sometimes it doesn't load at all. My wife's iPad 2 will get on the same site right away sitting next to mine.

Try doing a rest on your router and your ipad.
Reset your router by switching it off for about 2 minutes and then letting it fully start up again.
Also reset your ipad,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
