Add your hard drive to the Privacy pane in the Spotlight preferences, wait a bit, then remove it. That will normally cause Spotlight to reindex the drive.
If it still fails, you may need to delete the existing Spotlight index cache. Post back and someone can provide instructions.
I tried putting hard drive in private and deleting from private and the situation did not change.
I think it might have to do with the way my super duper back-up is configured.
I was having some other issues so I just re-installed 10.8.3.
Spotlight is re-indexing...I will report back.
I have read some other support articles which suggest that super duper might be causing a problem.
Also, there is a re-indexing command in Alfred2 which I tried before, but not since re-installing.
I am open to suggestions.
