How do I rest or re-index spotlight

My spotlight is not finding folders that I think it should find. For example it will not find "My Templates" folder.

Is there a way to re-index spotlight?

I am also running Alfred 2.

I recenlty installed OSX 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion)

I have run disk repair and verify disk and spotlight will not find "My Templates" folder.

Spotlight is tricky about showing files in hidden folders. Hold down the option key and select Go > Library from the menu bar. Try the search again, being sure to search "Library."

Add your hard drive to the Privacy pane in the Spotlight preferences, wait a bit, then remove it. That will normally cause Spotlight to reindex the drive.

If it still fails, you may need to delete the existing Spotlight index cache. Post back and someone can provide instructions.

I tried putting hard drive in private and deleting from private and the situation did not change.

I think it might have to do with the way my super duper back-up is configured.

I was having some other issues so I just re-installed 10.8.3.

Spotlight is re-indexing...I will report back.

I have read some other support articles which suggest that super duper might be causing a problem.

Also, there is a re-indexing command in Alfred2 which I tried before, but not since re-installing.

    I am open to suggestions.

    But I will report back

    Thank you for your time.

So Library is hidden in Mountain Lion, but not hidden in Snow Leopard?

  • varjak paw Level 10 Level 10

Correct; the user's Library folder is also hidden by default in 10.7 Lion.
