Time Machine Kernel Panic

Question

Hello All, I have an iMac mid 2010 with 10.8.3 fully up to date as far as i can tell.Currently i am having issuses with my time machine, the backup will fail and cause a kernel panic to occur after a few minutes of backing up.I have taken the steps of reinstalling mountain lion via the recovery hd, and i alos have formated the time machine backup drive i am using which is simply a 1tb WD drive. Oddly enough, the drive is able to complete a backup while the computer is booted into safe mode, which makes me think of a ktext problem i am experiencing any insight? OK, the HD could be failing which could be the cause of KPs. Do you have another EHD that you can use to test with? Personally I&#x27;m not a fan of WD EHD&#x27;s the enclosures they use are very cheap and tend to have a lot of issues.

Alright so I attempted another backup on another drive, kernel panic. However tried this one in safe mode as well, both are able to complete a backup in safe mode.

Remove the memory upgrade and reinstall the original memory modules. See whether there&#x27;s any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a small amount of rubbing alcohol.

Good suggestion, the ram was removed and reset to the original 8gbs and a backup completed successfully overnight. Thanks

Linc has shown you have a RAM issue, this can be:Failed RAMUnseated RAMIncorrect RAMThe easiest thing to do is reinstall and re-seat the RAM. If KP&#x27;s continue then it&#x27;s either incorrect or Failed, to eliminate incorrect carefully compare the specifications of the RAM to what Apple recommends. If there is any variance that&#x27;s your issue! To test for failed RAM download REMBER from www.macupdate and test for the failed DIMM chip.
