I cannot open iWeb where I need to update my website.

My website is hosted by GoDaddy. But I developed it and keep it updated on the iWeb application. I have been having startup problems with my laptop and cannot even backup my files because Time Machine is not working and whenever I try to backup my files to an external hard drive I get "read/write error" messages for certain files or photos. It then ceases to backup the files not in error. So, I am in limbo. Without backing everything up especially the photos which are important to the website, I can't go further in doing a system wipe on the hard drive.

Any ideas on 1) opening up iWeb? 2) overriding error messages to allow backup of files to continue?

One last question. Does anyone know how one can transfer a a whole website application and its content to another website application without doing all the input over again? My website has over 1,000 photos and 7 line captions as well as numerous explainatory text.

Thanks.

1: Don't erase anything, use another Mac or external boot drive to make sure you have a copy of your files, or use something like Data Rescue on another bootable drive or Mac to recover files so your sure you have them.

Consider your TimeMachine drive corrupted, because one can't verify it works to restore (like a bootable clone can) you won't know until it's too late.

2: Fix your machine once your files are safe off of it and the drive with your files is disconnected and verified on another machine.

3: iWeb is discontinued, but yes you can transfer the files and use another program.

Discontinuation of iWeb in iCloud transition

In June 2011, rumors emerged that iWeb would not be developed further.[3] Similar services like Jimdo were already offering special support for users planning to switch from iWeb.[4] On June 30 2012 Apple finally pulled the plug on MobileMe. All iWeb websites hosted on MobileMe disappeared if not hosted elsewhere. Apple provided instructions

of how to move iWeb sites to another host. In this New York Times article

David Pogue shows replacement options for MobileMe services, including iWeb. His suggestions were Jimdo and Weebly.
