Q: 2009 iMac (Mid) fails to automatically connect to preferred wifi on startup or waking from sleep.....HELP!!!

This seems to be a familiar issue.  I however do not have this issue with my 2011 MacBook Pro 13".

My iMac (Mountian Lion 10.8.3) fails to connect to my wifi on start up or waking from sleep.  I have to select my network from the list of available networks and enter my password each time.  I have talked to Apple support twice and just got this back from the Apple Store (40 miles away).  They told me they reset some setting and that the wifi card is fine.  I picked it up with the understanding they were able to re-create the issue in house and were able to fix it.  I just hooked it up and entered my network info and saved it.  I decided to sleep test it to see if it was fixed and the first time I put it in sleep and waking it the problem is still occuring.  WHY????

I use a recently bought Linksys E2500 router.  The router was a refurbished unit and works great with all other devices on the network including my 2011 (late) MacBook Pro 13" (Mountian Lion 10.8.3).  The MBP connects without any issues at all ... every time!!!  I don't understand why this is happening... I have tried everything to reset the network settings. Apple was supposed to have this fixed and clearly they didn't.  Apple computers should be able to connect to a major name brand router easily every time.

Is anyone else having this issue with iMac on 10.8.3?  Anyone able to resolve the issue?  PLEASE HELP!!! Aparenttly the geniouses can't figure it out... waste of AppleCare warranty?!?!?!  Beginning to think so.

iMac (20-inch Mid 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8GB, 160GB

    Hi Andrew,

Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

    If using Wifi/Airport...

Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).

    Click OK.

If that doesn't work try changing channels on your Router.

Thank you for the suggestions and instructions.

I have tried the your network instructions and I'm still having the same issues.

I will look into changing the routers channel and see if that clears this mess up. I will update when finished.
