how to import from a scanner/printer
How do you do it? I cannot figure it out.
iMac, iOS 6.1.4, printer is hp psc1350 all-in-one
Simply, you don't.
You scan the the images to a folder on the desktop. Then wen you've finished the scanning phase you import the files from that folder. Why wait until you've finished scanning? Because every import means at least one new event, and if you go one by one then you get a whole lot of one photo events.
When you scan be sure to use an RGB colour profile. iPhoto supports RGB, that's what cameras shoot in. Dor more on that see your scanner manual.
