How to unlink iMessage from phone number?

I recently switched over from iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy S4. I used the iPhone for 2 years with iMessage on. I no longer use the iPhone. I turned off iMessage on my iPhone, I unregistered the iPhone from my Apple account. However my friends and family that own an iPhone with iMessage turned on, everytime they text my number...my new phone doesn't receive the text message. It still shows that my number is iMessage capable with the blue bubbles. And that is weird because I own an Android device now. How do I fix this issue? It's really annoying and I can't receive any texts from those people with iPhones.

The permanent solution is to have the non-iPhone user (who had previously had an iPhone) to have their # disassociated with iMessage by Apple. They need to place a call, or swap their SIM back into their old iPhone and deactivate iMessage.

Once that's done, delete any open converstaion in your Messages app, and the next message will go out properly as a text every time.

Hello I got your fix. This is a big stump to pull out of the ground. Just bear with me. First, Call Apple and dissassociate your phone number from imessage. wait 24 hours. then get your new Galaxy 4s and take your sims card out and put it into your old iphone ( i hope you still have it). Erase all of your messages. then put your sims card back into your galaxy 4s. now all your messages will be received from all iphones. This worked for me, i hope this works for all of you.

A moment ago, I went into the Messages preferences on my Mac and unchecked the "enable this account" -- my number was showing up there. When I reenabled it, just to see what would happen, my phone number disappeared. Hopefully that is the last place my phone number is registered with Apple products.

Just one more thing to try. I love my Mac stuff, but this issue has me questioning my loyalty. Sheesh.
