Lost iPad

Hi. I have lost my iPad. It is registered with iCloud, but I can't remember the password for the account (It's not my main iTunes account). If I reset the iCloud password, so that I can login to the control panel and look for my iPad, will the iPad still report it's position, or will it stop communicating with the service because it is using the old password?
