Sound has gone on iPhone 4s

Afternoon all,

18 month old iPhone 4s, no problems whatsoever 'til this morning.

The sound is working when I turn it up high for someone ringing me.

The sound is working when I put headphones into it for music or to watch live TV or video.

The sound is NOT working when I play music or watch live TV or video when the headphones are NOT in.

Any clues greatly received.

Just an update on what the problem was. The docking at the bottom of the iPhone 4s wasn't connecting properly which was causing the sound to not function properly externally.

The Genius showed me with a torch that it had gone green through wear and tear of docking inside and that sound would only work if 'mated' to the male connection. I'd had the phone 20 months since the 4s's launch. I didn't have an extended warranty but it wouldn't have been covered anyway. He offered me a new 4s for a substantially reduced price so I took him up on his offer.
