Mail app no longer works

I've done a force quit on the app and have rebooted the ipad. I've followed Apple's suggestions for checking the settings. Still neither of my mail accounts can send or receive.

Mail stopped working while we are relying on a hotel's wifi. Safari works fine and Mail on my wife's ipad works.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Thanks Texas.

My, you've done your research.

I've done pretty well everything short of deleting and resetting the account. I shall probably hold off doing so while on the road, at least immediately, in case I get my settings wrong. Although logic tells me to go ahead as Mail is useless to me until I fix it! On the other hand perhaps the iPad is simply allergic to the hotel's wifi system. For now I'm resorting to google's webmail, reminding myself every time why I normally use Mail.

Cheers,

Duncan

Hi again Texas,

Just to let you know that in this case doing nothing actually worked. A day after switching wifi systems (now staying at a different place) both my mail accounts have sprung back to life. If the wifi network was the problem it's a mystery why switching wouldn't bring immediate resolution rather than enduring a day's delay but, whatever, it works.

Cheers,

Duncan
