To check about the airport card click the Apple in the menubar>about this mac>more info>system report, in the left under net work click wi-fi and it should give the info about the card. Maybe it is not functioning. Also you should run software update to bring you up to 10.7.5.

Does not show a card. Updating should not affect data , as always you should do a back up first.

No card or of functioning. Or not reconized. You ca take it to the Apple store they will diagnose it for free and give you your options.

you should have a Airport extreme Card (802.11a/b/g/n) There might be an issue with it not being recognized. Like I said you can take it to an aple store and they will diagnose it for free. Being that you bought it second hand maybe something or one has caused an issue.

Yes, double-click on it and run the updater. I'd recommend you have reliable backup before updating in the unlikely event something goes wrong during the update process (unlikely, but possible), so that you can restore to a previous condition if needed.

Yes, follow paul31's directions and you shout be fine. There is a portion of the update pertains to airport that might help your issue but I am not all that certain. Once again flake it to apple store for free diagnosis, it might be something simple and cheap but at least you know.
