how can i upgrade bootcamp 4 to 5, when i'm already using windows 8?

I have used windows 8 in bootcamp 4 on my macbook pro retina for months, and it worked pretty well, except for bug/crashed, overheating, short battery life and probably also slow usb 3, not sure about the usb, or if i'm just impatient.

Anyway, now it acts up suddenly..

It's saying: "This program has compatibility issues", bootcamp 4, apple computer.

And then you can "search for help online" or "run the program without getting help", but no matter what, it won't start, and it doesn't find any solutions when searching or help either:/

Everywhere i look on the net, it says, doing this from windows 7, or doing it when you INSTALL windows 8, but since it wasn't made back then as far as i know, i couldn't do that..

So please tell me how i on my windows 8 pro edition running in bootcamp 4 on macbook pro retina, can upgrade/update the bootcamp to bootcamp 5, and not only because of those problems above, but also so the trackpad works probably again, cus i made it work perfect before, but it stopped working when bootcamp won't start in windows 8:/

I can't even start up the bootcamp application in windows 8 anymore, which i was ablet to only a few days ago:i

Welcome to Apple Support Communities

It's recommended to install Boot Camp 5 drivers before upgrading to Windows 8 in order to have everything working after the upgrade. If you haven't upgraded before, you can still do it downloading and install Boot Camp 5 drivers from Apple > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638

Just decompress the file and run the installer in Windows

Hello,

I have the same problem as Raice, I mean that I have installed Windows 8 and Boot Camp 4 and would like to upgrade to Boot Camp 5 for the same compatibility reasons.

Downloading the boot camp 5 drivers does not help because the installation of the drivers (install.exe) replies that some errors have been encountered and then it stops and does nothing, probably because boot camp 4 is already running ...

Thx, but you see, even though it's recommended to upgrade before installing windows 8, there's nothing i can do about that now...

I have windows 8 pro edition installed, and i have had it for many months now, and i by mistake did it on bootcamp 4, before i knew about the compatiblity issues that i now know about.

It's not really possible for me to just make a do over..

It's not possible to just delete it and just do it right the next time and then install windows 8 and everything i have on there now.

So don't suggest that, just saying:p

What i'm after here, is a solution to, what now?

What do i do when i have already made the mistake, is there any way for me to upgrade to bootcamp 5 FROM windows 8 pro, even though it's recommended to do it before installing it?:)

I have been having the exact same problem. I have used Windows 8 with Bootcamp for since Windows 8 release with no problems until yesterday. Now every time I boot up I get a "There is a problem with this Program: Bootcamp 4" error. I downloaded Bootcamp 5 and when I run the setup I get a "This App Can't Run on Your PC" message. I am using a late 2011 MacBook Pro with the latest update of Mountain Lion.

The exact error is a pop-up window at startup when I go to desktop. The title of the window is Program Compatibility Assistant. Under that it says "This program has compatibility issues". Under that it says Boot Camp 4 Apple Computer.

Then like I said in my previous post I downloaded Bootcamp 5, put it on a clean FAT formatted USB and tried running setup. I get the message "This App Cant Run on Your PC"

and had some issues with video card acting up once in awhile then when win8 got official support I downloaded the bootcamp 5 driver zip and extracted it in windows and installed the drivers that was newer

and all was well still is

I have the same problem. I have a MacBook Air with Windows 7 pro 64 bit and when Windows 8 pro 64 bit was launched i upgraded. There was no Bootcamp 5 at that moment, Bootcamp 5 came months later (nice support Apple). So i have the same problem as many other Mac owners who work in Windows (it's my main operating system). I want to upgrade to Bootcamp 5 on my current Windows 8 platform running with Bootcamp 4. When i run the installer at this moment it give an error that it will only run on Windows 7.

In my oppinion it should not be a mayor problem, it does need focus of the Apple Botcamp team.

You need to go into Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features

Now scroll to locate the Boot Camp 4 Program and UNINSTALL IT.!

After the UNINSTALL of Boot Camp 4 completes you need to install the Boot Camp 5 Windows Support Software which hopefully you have downloaded to a USB or DVD.

If you do not already have the Boot Camp 5 Windows Support Software, download them NOW before proceding with the UNINSTALL.

I assume you are using the 64 bit version of Windows 8 as Boot Camp 5 only supports 64 bit.

how can i upgrade bootcamp 4 to 5, when i'm already using windows 8?
