failed to complete my reinstallation

Hi guys,

my Macmini4,1 @ 2.40 GHz (x 2), 2048 MB RAM failed to load the OS and right after I started to reinstall the OS again with original DVD it all went fine, but after a few attempt to update my OS IT FAILED to update and i try few times until my os stop responding and which i did try to reinstall the OS in which I have failed to do so.

things I have done so far:

PRAM done!

Apple Hardware Test done! (at first I had difficulties to finish the test but after a few attempts it was no issue in hardware)

pull the plug out and also memory ram and left it for a while with no connection and electricity

I have try to create image file of my hard drive in disk utilities but failed due to few factors (file is too big, input/output error) so I haven't be able to back up my data, is there any format I have to use to back up my data?

erase unused space with disk utilities

verify and repair hard disk few times until there was no issue at all

verify and repair permission for the Macintosh HD

I have also attached my installer log report for more information.

It is not clear if you Reinstalled OS X over the top or did a complete Erase and Install.

Either way, use the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to bring it up to date.

What are you trying to backup your data to..?

If you want to make a copy of your Internal HD to an External HD using Disk Utility, then the External HD will need to be formatted Mac OS Extended.

WARNING: Re-formatting an existing External HD will Erase all the current Data stored on it. So it is probably best to re-format a new External HD instead of one with data already stored on it.

I'm not that good a reading Logs either, but if I am correct it looks like you were OK after reinstalling OS X and then things went aray either updating or migrating...?

So first I'd give the Combo Update above a shot and report back.

Hi den,

at first I had my mac freeze or hang , then after a few attemptd to boot up to OS it wasn't working , right after I try to reinstall from the DVD everything went fine after boot up nicely , then my friends went and browse facebook with it and it was a bit laggy and I had also try to install my update for mac but it was giving me error every time .

right after 1 and half day things went wrong and it all came to this.

I didnt format "erase" anything on my macintosh hd , so i was trying to reinstall.

how am i going to tuse the update file, if i cant reinstall the previous version ? Im in a point which I can not install or back-up ?

Startup from your Snow Leopard Disk and navigate to Utilities > Disk Utility, then use Disk Utility to Repair the Macintosh HD startup volume.

see > Mac OS X - Using Disk Utility to Repair a Disk

If the Repair completes properly, download and install the 10.6.8 Combo Update above.

If not, jot down and report back why Disk Utility failed to Repair the Macintosh HD.

Hi den,

but the problem is i can not start up and it get stuck in the white background with apple logo and gray spinning thingy, so this means I can not update in the same place "Mac OS X Installer" I did a repair right?

unfortunately ,I am living in Tehran, Iran so there aren't any Apple store here, and I'm scared to take it outside where there is no privacy once they go through your files on my HD.

I'm thinking it is a memory ram issue as I already mention about this issue in Macrumurs.

anyway thanks a lot den!

I will update if any update.

any how I also did a timemachine back up which help me not to lose any data and erase "zero data" format and I did a new installation of OS and everything seems fine now.

Thank you den for your support.
