Boot Camp in Mountain Lion only supports Windows 7 and Windows 8, but you can't install Windows XP. Windows XP support was dropeed with Boot Camp 4 in Lion.

If you want to install Windows XP, you have to install it on a virtual machine. To create a virtual machine, you can use an application like Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox. However, if you need your computer to work with heavy applications in Windows, you will probably need Boot Camp, so it's better to install Windows 7 or 8. You can use OS X and Windows if you run Windows on a virtual machine or Boot Camp. The advantage of a virtual machine is that you can run Windows without restarting the MacBook Pro.

Some virtual machine applications, like VMware Fusion, allow you to virtualize the Boot Camp partition, so you will be able to run OS X and Windows at the same time
