do i use bonjour and ichat at same time

ive just been through an ordeal of discovering after a year that to have certain secutrity functions etc my "macbook has to be online" to do this i needed to sort out ichat.

this means dealing with bonjour.... do i need to have them both on at the same time or can i turn off bonjour now.
