Q: In itunes my iphone shows up as having nearly 8G of "Other"...what is taking up all this space?

After doing some research it looked like I needed to restore my iphone.  I went through the process, created a backup, etc.  Now when the phone comes back on I tell it to restore from an itunes backup.  In itunes the phone indicates 12GB of free space.  Good news.  But then when I click on "restore backup" I get an error message that says "itunes could not restore the iphone because not enough free space is available on the iphone." 

Then the iphone reboots and wants to start the process all over again, which I do, each time with the same result, the same error message.

With the phone connected to itunes, itunes indicates 244KB in songs, 1.94GB in apps, and 668.9MB in "other."

The phone itself shows the screen with the three options of

1.  Set up as new iphone

2.  Restore from icloud backup

3.  restore from itunes backup

When I select "restore from itunes backup" I get the error message "itunes could not restore the iphone because not enough free space is available on the iphone."

What am I doing wrong?

The size of the itunes backup folder on PC 13.7GB.  In itunes available space on the iphone is listed at 10.99GB, so now I understand the reason for the error message.

That said, why is the backup folder so large and what files within the folder are safe to delete?

Thanks ihelp87. That probably works in 99% of the cases but unfortunately not in this case.
