Can I restore iPod without losing all data?

iPod password has been entered too many times - now says 'iPod disabled connect to iTunes' - have tried to connect to iTunes but you can't without a password!? If I restore the iPod (pressing top button and home key) will all apps and music be gone?

Thanks

iPod touch, iPod disabled

The soft reset does no affect to you. Just the background stuff. You dont need to sync all you need to do is to press reset on your iPod's settings in iTunes. Forget the syncing message just click your iPod in iTunes and press restore. If you have pictures, attach your iPod, open up the start menu, press computer, and open your iPod. Don't worry about losing your music. You can redownload that by going into iTunes on your iPod and redownloading it. Your apps will be fine too except that you will have to restart all over again unless it requires internet.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:

iTunes: Restoring iOS software

To restore from backup see:

iOS: How to back up

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Unless you have it set to automatically backup to iCloud, then no. Pressing the home and lock button at the same time doesn't reset it. It only does a soft reset that clears the logs, useless files, etc. If it is backed up to iCloud, reset it by iTunes (click on iPod, and press restore) and wait for iTunes to download the iOS firmware (30 - 20 minutes). Then, set it up again and look for restore from iCloud backup. Also, online games aren't reset if you restore your iOS device.

Thanks for the info.

Would a soft reset 'enable' the password again? It's not backed up by iCloud so am asuming that I would lose all apps and music if I restored?

When I plugged the iPod into the computer, and went onto iTunes, it said that it could not sync the device as I hadn't entered the password - so I was unable to do anything with the iPod through iTunes because of the password issue?

Thanks again 🙂
