cursor pointer turns to precision when moving

I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2009) and the cursor turns from the standard pointer to precision crosshairs whenever I move it. It also becomes quite jittery at time when I'm trying to click on a button etc.


Any suggestions on how to fix this?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), Mid-2009, 8GB Ram
