remote app not finding apple tv

HELP I have done everything that all the trouble shoting says to do, and still cannot find apple tv on the remote app. All devices are updated, on the same network, using the same apple ID and home sharing is on. All that shows up on the app is our two itunes libraries. I must be missing something, and it is driving me nuts! our apple TV remote is not working, and we have been using the app. all of a sudden it is not working.
