I have been having the same issue.  I upgraded to 11.0.3 earlier in the week and iTunes is crashing daily.  I thought perhaps my library had been corrupted, so I followed the instruction in this support article to re-create the library from the XML file:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451

It had no effect.  The next morning iTunes had crashed again.

I hope this is fixed soon, we live on AppleTV.  I have not found a site that has 11.0.2 that I would feel safe to download from.  Perhaps the time machine backup is my only choice.

    You can find 11.0.2 here:

I downloadet it yesterday, but dont know how to install it (i before lost all my music,  1.2 TB)

    Best Regards

Welcome to the new Apple.  The glory days are over.  The goal is no longer innovation, but "just enough to stay one step ahead of Microsoft" and "try to catch up to Samsung."

Since 11.0.3 upgrade my iTunes is not working correctly and has frequent freezes, too.

  • SunnyCal Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I reinstalled iTunes and it seems to be working now.

what process did you use? I downloaded and installed over the top of my existing install... and it didn't help.

I'm wondering if you uninstalled via dragging to trash ... did you remove other files?

Also... since how long has it been working? a few hours ... a few days?

    cheers!

Intermittent problems continue.  I did not reinstall and a day ago it worked perfectly.  Today, I turned ITunes on and it crashed after about 2 minutes.  I restarted and it has been working perfectly for hours now.  No answers to this issue yet from Apple.

My best guess right now is that the crashing is related to wifi syncing.  I turned wifi sync off on all my devices and I haven't had a crash in two days.  I came to this conclusion seeing the following errors logged before each crash:

That said, I created a python script to re-start iTunes if it crashes.  Here is a link to it:

iTunes never crashed on me before and within minutes of installing 11.0.3, it has been crashing for me daily.

I tried reinstalling 11.0.3 over the existing installation and it did not fix the problem.

The crashing seems entirely random.  I've seen it crash while playing music or videos, and I've seen it crash while running idle in the background.  I've seen it crash within a minute of reopening since the last crash, and I've seen it crash over a day later since the last crash.

I am going to test out Matti_A's suggestion by turning off wifi sync for a little while.  I won't like having to do that, but I may have to go that route for a while until the next patch.

Having a variety of crashes, all of which are captured above.  Spoke with AppleCare today.  Reinstalled iTunes, that failed. Reinstalled Super Mountain Lion King of Nerds (something to that effect) -- to no avail.  The most interesting crash, which happens every time, is when I search in the music folder, and, if I type, "ar" in that sequence, I get the rainbow swirl of constipation. Total freeze. Like Ted Williams head.

Anyhow, try searching in iTunes with  "ar" like for, "aretha franklin" or, "aristocrats."  CRASHOLLA.

The other crashes ocurred intermittently, like when I clicked on an upcoming song in the dropdown playlist.

Supposed to speak with the applecare dude tomorrow morning.  I'll update you folks if anything pops up.  Wonder if this is revenge for me having "The Aristocrats" in my computer.  It's a very clean joke.

Yes, same here. Upgraded last weekend, and crashes pretty much every day. Usually about two minutes after first opening - the sound goes on my iMac, then the airplay setup about ten seconds later followed by the 'iTunes had unexpectedly quit' box. Having said that, it just quit after about 30 minutes use. iTunes has always been stable, but it's sad to see this one failing so widely...

Just to add - all Wifi switched off on mine too

Having similar problem here. Itunes crashes every time I try to open it. Can't sync any devices, use itunes for apple tv, nothing.

  • Kzatu Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I tried Matti_A's suggestion by turning off wifi sync and I have not had a crash in two days .  I had an iPod, iPhone, and iPad on wifi sync.  I am going to try turning them on one-by-one slowly, like one each day, to see if it is a problem with a single device.

  • Matti_A Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I too have made it several days without a crash.  I have just my iPhone 4S syncing right now, and iTunes has still been ok the last couple days.  I have not attempted to add anything else back yet.
