Various artists album won't compile!!! Anyone else having problems?

Firstly I am not up on how ITUNES really works. However for such a huge company with so many clients/users/customers, you'd think they'd design ITunes to be simple/ & user friendly.

Ok my CURRENT issue;

1. I import a new various artists album into ITUNES.

2. The album separates into individually songs with the same album name. (Can I counter act this before I import the album, if so how?)

3. I individually select each song.

4. I click on Get Info.

5. I tick box Part of Compilation.

6. Songs will NOT compile into one single album with the same name.

7. I've rechecked everything in Get Info, yet the songs will not compile???

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP???

To say this is frustrating is a serious understatement!!!😠
