Currently Being ModeratedJun 1, 2006 3:32 AM (in response to ami lou)Reinstalling iTUnes usually doesn't wipe out music, so just so were clear when you open iTUnes, is there any music listed there (Without the iPOd connected)? Or is iTUnes TOTALLY blank?
If iTUnes is TOTALLY blank DO NOT connect the ipod up to your PC, it may wipe your iPOd outDell, Windows XP, 5G iPod
Currently Being ModeratedJun 1, 2006 3:42 AM (in response to ami lou)I cleared out my library then re-populated it so there is music in itunes but when I connect my ipod and click onto that in itunes nothing appears although on the wee bar on the bottom it says 26.4gb used and 1.6 space free.....i'm baffled as to whats happened, I tried to add more music (10 tracks) to my ipod and it adds no problem and decreases the amount of space free but only says that the total amount of songs are those that i've just added.Windows XP
Currently Being ModeratedJun 1, 2006 3:56 AM (in response to ami lou)Whats happened then is iTUnes basicly "Copied" its empty library file onto the iPod. When you connect the iPod to iTUnes it copys music over AND the library/database iTUnes has. Id say the music is there, but the iPOd Library hhas no "Link" or "Direction" to ponit to these files so it shows nothing.
The only option you have now is using yamipod http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/ and seeing if it can recover these songs for you off the ipod. Read the "docs" on yamipods home page here to learn how to use it and what feature you need to use to recover off the iPod (Like Find lost music and repair iPOd) http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/docs/
If it can not recover songs off the iPod, and you have no backups made, your going to be VERY limited in your options. you will have to "Re" import all your CDs. All songs you bought online you will have to email apple and see if they will offer a "Re" download of them. Keep in mind there under NO obligation to do so, but most have had success in emailing them and getting an offer to redownload songs they bought and have not be modified on the store. here a link to email the music store if you need to as a last resort http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/download/
To backup music once you recover everything you can go here and follow steps http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/backup/Dell, Windows XP, 5G iPod

Its early morning here (East coast USA), and Im so use to answering questions for people who have reinstalled WINDOWS that I kinda go into a "Auto answer mode"Dell, Windows XP, 5G iPod
Currently Being ModeratedJun 1, 2006 5:14 AM (in response to ami lou)I have all my music still on my pc so it's not a problem copying it back to my ipod, what i'm confused about is why my ipod only shows that it has a couple of songs on it but when I look on the 'about' bit on my ipod it shows that most of the space has been used but there's nothing in the library bar the 10 songs I copied over this morning to test and when I hook it up to itunes again it also shows that i've used most of the space but only shows the songs I copied over this morning. How can I get it to show accurately the amount of songs that are on it and the true amount of space left on it?Windows XP
Currently Being ModeratedJun 1, 2006 5:33 AM (in response to ami lou)The easy thing to do is first load iTUnes with all your music you have on the PC.
THen do a restore on the iPod, Restore will wipe it clean and correct errors, then use iTunes to load it back up
The latestr iPod updater is 03-23-2006 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/Dell, Windows XP, 5G iPod

Currently Being ModeratedJun 1, 2006 6:48 AM (in response to ami lou)I've figured out how to upload all my music again but the bummer is having to recreate my playlists, oh well that'll keep me busy for the rest of the afternoon instead of working!
thanks for your helpWindows XP
Currently Being ModeratedJun 1, 2006 7:03 AM (in response to ami lou)Just for interst, but there is a way of backing up a playlist once you create it so you can "Plunk" it back in iTUnes if you wipe out the library again. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93763Dell, Windows XP, 5G iPod
