there is no "devices" button when I connect my iphone - how do I synch ?

When I connect my iphone up in itunes 11, there is no devices button and no way of synching ( I hate this new version soooooo much) anyone got any ideas as to how to make the iphone visible of what the problem might be - dropbox recognises it fine and synchs with it.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

View Menu > Show Sidebar (this will remove about 50% of the reasons to hate iTunes 11 as well)

no - I see the sidebar, but not the "devices" tab

NOW, do you see your iPhone icon in the sidebar?

If so That's perfect. Just select the icon of you iPhone icon in the sidebar. You should now see all your sync options in the right pane. (that's the way it's supposed to work.)

If not: you do have a problem.

(ASSUMING YOU'VE DONE THE BASICS: like authorizing the computer in iTunes (using the same Apple ID as your iPhone, and signing into your account using your Apple ID) (which I've been taking for granted since from the sounds from your post, all was well under iTunes 11)

If not: You have several options:

  1. use Apples iPhone support and troubleshooting assistant it's really pretty good, more reliable than user posts. Start with Apples KB "iPhone not Appearing in iTunes" (it is the top article under iTunes support > syncing)
  2. If that fails, Contact Apple Tech
