When I try iMessage for the first time, I want it to be in SMS but there's no switch in my settings for Messages. How can I fix this?
I always wanted to turn on my SMS but the "Send as SMS" switch isn't there
iPod touch, iOS 6.1.3

Trouble-shooting iMessage
An iPod does not use SMS. Apple's Messages app on the iPod or iPad is not associated with cellular and thus SMS is not applicable.
An iPod and iPad can only message to other iOS devices (iPod touch, iPhone or iPad) and newer Mac computers.
Is SMS still not an option with iPad air? I was looking for settings to be able to text to a non iPhone user and couldn't find one. After searching through the iPad communit, I believe this is telling me it's not an option so wanted to confirm that is still the case. Can you confirm?
Yes, SMS is associated with phone cellular, not data cellular.
