Final Cut Studio and Upgrading

Hello Apple Support Community - hope you're fine and well!

I'm nearing an Apple hardware upgrade; my MacPro is starting to chug somewhat.

Hardware aside, what I'm concerned with is migrating FCP, which of course is mildly expensive!

My initial FCS pack is 5.1 (for Intel-based Macs) and also have an upgrade pack to FCP 7.0.3.

I notice Apple hardware seems to be phasing out disc drives, so I'm also wondering how to pull stuff over short of investing in an external dvd-rom drive.

So, one can I bring my FCP along for the ride? And two, how do I get it onto a optical driveless machine? Is networking an old and new machine an option, perhaps?

All advice is much appreciated! 🙂

Hi Mark,

I think the best way to do this is to make disc images of your FCP (studio 3 ?) installation discs, you can then install on your new system. You will probably have to enter your original serial numbers.

Ah, smashing! Thanks very much.

I was worried I might have to hang on in with my current Mac Pro to the bitter, bitter end in FCP migration was too difficult. I'm more inclined to make the jump now before getting left too far behind on the upgrade track.
