Q: Share wifi with my iPhone

I'm currrently using a Samsung phone, but I'm thinking to move to the iPhone. According to what my friends say, it's not possible to share wifi with the help of an iphone. Is that so

It's unclear what you mean... If you have a plan that permits tethering, and your carrier supports it on the iPhone, you can set up a personal hotspot and share the cellular data connection via WiFi. If there is a WiFi network where you are, you can not re-share it via the phone. Why would you... it's already there.

Thanks for the answer but here's what I mean.   I'm currently using an Android phone and when I go to a rural area, I use it as a router for my Macbook. Android -> share WiFi -> Macbook Laptop gets connected to that WiFi -> I'm online. :)  the question is if I'll be able to do the same with an iPhone.

Sure, it's called the hotspot feature. See below.

This is called "tethering"  (or as Apple calls it "Personal Hotspot") and is available on the iPhone if you have the feature enabled with your cellular carrier. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4517

Muchas gracias. That moves me closer to the idea of migrating to the iPhone.

I had a situation recently where I really needed to share a WiFi. I the hotel where I stayed I had to purchase internet. It was sold not per room, but per device. I needed mostly internet on my iPhone. So I purchased internet only for it. At the same time it would be very convenient to have access on my macbook, my wife's phone and my kids ipad (to make her eat we need sometime put on youtube videos). Paying for all 4 devices daily would be pretty expensive, so at that moment I really needed to share WiFi.

    Any ideas?

When you go to Personal Hotspot menu there are options "to connect using bluetooth, to connect using usb" - I tried both but it didn't work.

The personal hotspot is a service purchased through your carrier and then used

You usually cannot buy service for one device and broadcast it like you were requesting

You cannot connect to wifi and share/pass thru that same wifi to other devices.

It is already available to all other devices.

A personal hotspot is for connecting your devices (using wifi) thru your iPhone cell signal.
