iMac Bookmarks
I have a iMac desktop. I set my bookmarks on the bookmark bar. It looks great but when I go back later the bookmarks are no longer there. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help!!

Might be corrupted preferences.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type of copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
I am a very inexperience iMac user and therefore nervous about this whole business.
I finally found the location to paste the suggested Preference.... plist.
However, before I do this I wanted to locate the com.apple.Safari.plist file - so that I could move to Trash but I don't know where that is>>
Help!!

Try it this way.
Open a Finder window.
Select your Home folder on the left. It has a small house icon.
On the right open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
You'll find the com.apple.Safari.plist file in the Preferences folder.
Move that .plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari.
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
OMG!!
This is hopeless.
I really appreciate you trying to help BUT
I did find the 'home' folder
could not find the library folder
nor could I find the com.apple.Safari.plist file in Preferences
I don't blame you if you just sign off on me...

Ok... try the video I created on YouTube to show you how to find files in the Finder only in your case move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash.
I won't give up ... hang in there.
So Carolyn,
That video was extremely helpful, however !!
I was looking in the correct place...
When I go to 'home' there is NO Library folder.
That's the problem
Why is that??
ALL this only because I would like to have my bookmarks easily accessible.

Let's try something else...
Try creating a new Bookmark.
With Safari open go to a site you want to Bookmark.
From the top of your screen in the menu click Bookmarks > Add Bookmark
You will see a drop down window.
Click the pop up menu and select Bookmarks Bar then click Add.
You should see the Bookmark in the Bookmarks bar.

when I do that, it does not appear on the Bookmarks bar.
If I click on show all bookmarks, the site does come up..
BUT, I would bet that when I look tomorrow it will not be there.
I do love my Mac though, even with this issue.

Ok... just as an example.
Go to www.google.com
You'll see the Google address (www.google.com) in the address field.
Drag the blue Google icon next to www.google.com to the Bookmarks bar.
It should stay
I think that this may have worked.
Dragging the icon on the Bookmark bar seems to have worked.
IT LOOKS GOOD... the drag motion is what I needed to know.

I'm so glad. Whew! 🙂
Happy gardening!
