Mac book pro freezing and time machine will not back up as it claims to be full.

Hi, I recently shipped my macbook pro from NZ to to the UK. It was in storage for 3 months. When it came back it was running really slow and freezing all the time. I was advised to re install and then import just my data from time machine. Now time machine will not back up. it claims the drive is full. how can I fix this problem?

The laptop worked for 2 weeks and has now started to freeze again, I figured it may be something related to not being able to back up.

I just went into an apple reseller and they advised making a new user account but I dont understand how or why this would work, but it does seem t freeze less.

Any Ideas?

Hello 3dwilliams,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I would be concerned as well if my MacBook Pro was repeatedly freezing.

The suggestion you were given to make a new user account is a good step to help isolate if the issue is a system wide issue or specific to your user account. If it doesn't happen in the brand new user, then there is something specific to your user account that could be causing this. If it is still happening in the new user, you would want to look at system wide files and settings that could cause this. I found an article that will help you isolate and address a software issue:

You can find information on what to do when your Time Machine Backup drive becomes full under the section titled "Backup drive fills up" in the following article:

Mac Basics: Time Machine

I hope this helps!

Best,

Sheila M.
