What is the best Mac-compatible Alternative to Quicken and why?

Well, I have not updated to Mtn Lion or Maverick and I still have my up-to-date Q 2006 because I have been entering in both Q 2006 and QE "just in case".

If I download or buy the CD from Q will my layout, Preferences, etc. be the same/similar?

Then go to Maverick I suppose.

For $15 worth a shot.

I'd like to DL right now but I like having the CD since I have a laptop and 2nd home / cabin w an Intel Mac also.

Guess I could do both.

Good work; keeping Quicken 2006 up to date.

Do both: download and order a CD if they offer it or burn it to one yourself or copy to a flash drive. There are no additional files from this download from Intuit, other than the application.

You should not see any changes in Quicken 2006 to Quicken 2007.

Try it BEFORE you update and get comfortable with it in your current version of OS X.

I used Quicken 2013 with VMWare which let me run Windows concurrently on my MacBook. I got tired of Windows so I switched to an app called CrossOver (www.codeweavers.com). This app allows you to run Windows programs on your Mac. Not all Windows programs are supported but Quicken is. It works very well. I get all the

functionality of Quicken,

I installed Mavericks and all work fine. The Q for Mac 2007 was the right way to go. Everythink in Q 2006 is there plus some improvements.

This is possibly off-topic but I'm not too surewhere to ask.

I have used Palm for yrears but it won't work in Mavericks.

When I tried to xfer "Palm Desktop User Data" to my laptop I got a message "...wont work PowerPC app..." something to that affect.

Any ideas? I have countless entries going waaayyy back I don't want to lose.

FYI I don't have a smart phone just an older Samsung -all I need and use . I use my iPad mini.

And it turned out my other cabin computer is not intel = it's PowerPC

I haven't updated my iMac to Mavericks yet till I see if I can xfer the Palm data -Q 2007 I did xfer and it's OK.

I've never used Parallels before.

I did create a vCard and entered it in Entourage because I was concerned Address Book and/or Contacts would Duplicate 1,000 entries

-I have never had any need to use Entourage before, but at least I know where all my addresses w emails, ph#'s, etc. are now -until I want to add new contacts, etc..

My main concern is losing the use of my [admittedly old -my son laffs] Palm Visor -it's still handy -I keep one in the car.

Would buying a Smart Phone solve the whole problem?

Or should I make an attempt at Parallels?

Seems anything of that ilk disappears eventually, too.

Parallels is pretty easy to install and SLS is also easy to install into Parallels.

Yes, a new smartphone would solve most problems, but you still have to get your data out of Palm. Can you access a friend or family member's Snow Leopard Mac?

I only updated my laptop to Mavericks so this iMac 24" is stll 10.6.8

I ordered a 27" imac UPS Arr today.THE ONLY THING i will lose in Mavericks is the ability to use Palm Desktop on Mtn Lion/Mavericks

I can still use my Palm hand helds just not on Mtn Lion/Mavericks computers as I have a non-volatile backup module on all three Palm handhelds.

I have Parallells 4.0 which I've never used.

How do I install Palm Desktop into Parallels? -download SLS? [is that Snow Leopard Server?].

If you have an iMac that still runs Palm in Snow Leopard, why do you need Palm on your laptop? Or are you replacing the iMac with a new one?

Parallels 9 14 days free trial can be downloaded from their website. Purchase from them is $79; maybe cheaper if you search on internet.

Installing Palm would be the same as you installed it into Snow Leopard on one of your other Macs...

I've never had need for Parallels till now and if I can have all my Contacts in Address Book and on my modules on each handheld Palm I won't lose any contact.

Ideally I would like to Import all Contacts into Address Book but wouldn't that cause Duplicates of all my contacts?

Having said all that I know I'll miss having Pam Desktop -easy to sync, etc..

As a general rule, it is usually better to upgrade your software. In your case, an upgrade of Palm that does not require Rosetta is not available. So the next usual best choice is alternative software that does some or all of the functions of the earlier software.

In the case of Palm, yes, Address Book, iCal are available to have your data inserted into them. For the exact specifics on how to do this (usually an export in Palm and then an import), you will have to seek solutions to that specific problem.

So, at the end of the day, you have to decide how comfortable you are abandoning Palm now. Continuing to use it will only become more problematic as time passes. The fact that you continue to use Palm hardware devices complicates that issue.

As a user of the iPhone 5, let me just say that I really appreciate that all of my computers and the iPhone are seemlessly sync'd by iCloud, without me having to but much thought into that subject.

That is good information. I am going to my local AT&T store for iPhone 5s info, etc.. -donate my Palms [3] to Smithsonian or . . .

So I could Export vCard from Palm Desktop to iPhone? That would be good news.

If I remember correctly Palm Desktop can sync (and/or EXPORT/IMPORT) to Snow Leopards' Address Book & iCal and then after that Mac is updated, you can use iCloud to sync those items to your other Macs.
