The update was probably corrupted. Try connecting to iTunes and see if you can restore the iPad this way.

If that doesn't work, you will need recovery mode.

You could try a reset of the iPad - no data will be lost.

Hold the Sleep and Home buttons down at the same time until you see the Apple logo - then release both buttons.  Wait for the iPad (hopefully) to restart.

I have tried resetting I get all the way to where it verifies the install then the apple icon starts flashing on the Ipad and then I get message 1602. Which I have tried several computers dropped my firewall, tested and tried different cables.

My USB connection sees the Ipad-

    The restore starts

    recovery mode begins

    extracs the software

    prepares I pad for restore

verifying Ipad for restore is where the problem happens Icon starts flashing then I get the error 1602" I pad could not be restored"

This is copied from the Specific iTunes error codes support site. If none of this works, including trying another known good computer, it is time to take your iPad to an Apple Store for evaulation.

    Error 1604

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
    2. Restore and wait for the error.
    3. When prompted, click OK.
    4. Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
    5. The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    6. Try to restore again.

If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

    Error 1600, 1601, 1602

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

I have tried disabling firewalls and security software along with known good cables that work on my iphone

I still get to the same point where it starts the verification and then the apple flashing logo reappears on my Ipad and the error message 1602 pops up on my PC. I even tried it on a Mac.

The description in the paragraph under error 1604 does say that if the steps do not work, your device may need service.

If nothing else is working for you, it's time to get an Apple Genius involved. They have more sophisticated ways of restoring devices, or so I have been told, and they might be able to help you with this. Make an appointment at a Genius Bar (there is no charge) and ask them to help you sort it out.

When I went to sign up at Apple genius bar and this is the statement  on the web page they will estimate how much it will cost to repair you item-

I more than likely will go anyways but what a pain and it's 2hrs away!

Just sad this happened just taken Apples update and then to fix it they want  $$$$$.

More than likely  they can go in and by pass the verification stage and it will restore just fine.

I might even just pursue going through my credit card company since they extend the warranty period for one year.

That repair cost I think might just be the standard company line about an out of warranty replacement, if that is the website that you are referring to. There is no charge for an Apple Genius' help. I had no idea how near to or far from an Apple Store you live when I made the suggestion.

I certainly understand your disappointment and frustration with this situation, and I would probably fee the same way if I was in your position. Contacting the CC company might not be a bad idea - see what they say. It worth a try.

I took the I pad on a 2.5 hr trip to see an apple genius they could do nothing for me except to offer me to pay 300.00 to replace my iPad. He said its stuck in the apple icon loop due to the firmware. He did bring to my attention other third party software red snow and something umbrella to try them? I find it ridiculous that their software caused this issue and they admittedly seem this before but since its out of warranty please pay 300 for a replacement. Wow welcome to being a loyal customer!

I'm sorry that they were unable to help you. Do you realize that this "Genius" recommended jailbreaking software? RedSnow is jailbreaking software which no Apple employee should ever recommend.

I find that to be a little odd unless he was trying in a last ditch effort for a way to try to save your iPad. Did he tell you that it as a jailbreak? I'm not that familiar with TinyUmbrella but supposedly it works with non jailbroken devices, but I still find this really odd for him to tell you to try one of those solutions.

I think it was a last ditch effort.
