I cannot send a document as a word doc.

When i attach a file as a word doc it shuts down the program and wont allow it. How can i fix this so i can attach word docs?

MacBook Pro, iOS 6.1.4

If I have a doc open and I try to send it in an email as a word doc Pages shuts down unexpectedly (thats the error message i get). Then it promps me to send a message to apple ito report the error.
