what to do the I tunes icon and the plug symbol are shown on the screen and wont go away

i plugged my Ipad in and pressed the itunes icon it began to sync after a few minutes a error sign appeared and said something like an error has accured you must press the restore button My ipad is frozen i turned it off and when i pluggrd it back in the same icon appeared
