I'm having similiar problems with the iPhoto Upgrader. I just bought a new Mini and am trying to restore/move my old iPhoto library (iPhoto'08...version 7) from my Time Machine on a WB USB Hardrive to the new iPhoto '11version 9.5

the Upgrader says I dont have to upgrade these files, but iPhoto doesnt seem to recognize the Library I have restored at all. I have done this procedure and restarted 5 times now to the same results.

Tried repairing permissions, rebuildiing thumbnails, repairing the database and rebuilding the database each time. This is becoming very tedious and leading nowhere. The file is 1.4 GB.

What do I do now?

Download iPhoto Library Managerand use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)

This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have photos in an old iPhoto library that I would like to convert and add to my present iPhoto library. When iPhoto Library Upgrader came out I got it and haven't yet been able to use it for this intent. Every time I try to use it that I do not need to use it for this version of iPhoto, that "your library can open with the current version of iPhoto and does not need to be prepared with this tool." Every time I swithch to that old iPhoto Library and try to open one of the photos the page goes black except for a white exclamation mark inside white triangle. Can anyone here explain how I can get at the photos in the other iPhoto Library?

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

OK. So its time to let Apple know anout this. It doesn't work period.

Sorry but it does work, you have a different problem. That library is corrupted:

try to open one of the photos the page goes black except for a white exclamation mark inside white triangle

That means iPhoto has lost the link between the photo and the thumbnail.

Do you have this library backed up? Can you try restore it again?

BTW If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.

Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager

Hello Terence,

sorry that I come here with a completly different thema but I follow your answers since long and they are always excellent!🙂 And I do not know who could help... as I can not find the solution in Apple Support Communities.

I am very afraid with my MacBook Pro: midd. 2012 😮

Prozessor: 2,3 GHz Intel Core i7

4GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Intel HD Graphics 4000 384 MB

Software: OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)

Kernel-Version: Darwin 12.5.0

iPhoto 11, Version: 9.4.3 (720.91)

iPhone 4s, 64GB Version:7.0.2 (11A501),

Symptoms:

1. I have notice three days ago that Spotlight allways answers I should go to the web when I look for data in my computer. It seems that Spotlight can not find anything from my computer.

2. Timemachine has no data before the 28th. January 2014 (!?) No idea why this happens 😕

3. In Finder window when I go to "Alle meine Daten"(= All my data) there is absolutely nothing there...it means 0 objekts are there.

4.In Systemeinformationen (=Systeminformations) if I go to Software and then to Programs... there is nothig there because the Plug-In do not react quick enough (Das Plug-In hat beim Sammeln dieser Informationen nicht schnell genug reagiert). I am asking me which Plug-In it is and where to find it...

5. On my iPhone the Photo-stream suddenly shows only 110 fotos from Dezember on, but in My MacBookPro the iPhoto Stream shows of course the lasts 1000 ones...from 25.01.2013 to 03.02.14 as it did allways before.

I am not going to sync anything until I discover what is going on...

6. On my Contacts suddenly appeared the link address of a "game" in my own card ( both in iCloud and Lokal AddressBook)... and I have never ever played an online game (!?). So I deleted this two links as I discovered them some days ago...

I do not know what is going wrong here but I'm afraid to loose all my data in the computer, so I am making a secure copy in an external drive right now...

Could it be a virus inside... a software problem may be...?

The mayor Problem is how to get the programms to work (Spotlight, etc), or how to repair them.

I'm trying to find something wrong in the Protocols I have here, for example

- the Repair protocol for users from 27.01.2012 ( /Users/Begona/Library/logs/fsck_hfs.log).

- the Datasystem-Reppairprotocol from 01.02. 14 (/var/log/fsck_hfs.log)

- the Installationsprotocol from 04.02.14...

but I am really lost.

Thank you very much for reading this, help would be high appreciated

Your post has nothing at all to do with the thread that you threadjacked - threadjacking makes it diffiult to volenteers to figure your issue out, makes it difficult for you to find and understand the answer and confuses future readers thinking that the thread is one subject when in fact is has multiple subjects - please start a new discussion for new questions

and You post as far as I can tell has nothing to do with iPhoto in any way

As an additional note ther are no known viruses that affect the Mac so that is not a likely cause

I will request that the Hosts try to figure out a place to put your post where it might get proper attention

Thank you LarryHN,

I knew it was not the right thread to post this, as I said at the beginning of my post... but I thought I could ask... sorry!!!

It was not my intention at all to confuse anybody... and I could not find in any thread something like what it is happening to my computer.

How I could take out my previous question? Is it possible or not anymore?

I have the fire wall activated as well, and I never had a virus since I use Mac (1997), I know it is not normal... but I can not fugure out what happends here.

Everythig I describe in my post happend since some days, exactly since 28.01. and it seems very strange to me.

The post has a question about iPhoto and the Photo-Stream on my iPhone as well: please see symptom 3.

Thank you for your answer.

Regards
