Q: how do i watch channel nine catch up tv on my apple tv

I just bought an apple TV because the salesman said I could use it to watch tv from my Mac to my TV. So far I cant make that happen. Can someone tell me how. I want to watch things on the net like catch up TV and films.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
