I'm using iTunes Match and cloud to save space on my iPad. It is now full and it is mostly music data that is filling it. What can I do to free up space?

Yes. It will save songs as they're played. At some point, older songs will start being removed to make room for new ones as they're played. Exactly when this happens isn't documented. If you want to free up the space now, you can delete all the music by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipe across All Music and tap Delete.
