How do I prevent iTunes 11.0.3 from opening automatically when I connect my iPhone?

The selection in iPhone/Summary/Options is no longer visible after the last update.

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.4, snow leopard

From the iTunes menu at the top go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Check the box at the bottom of that window. Click OK, quit iTunes.

That will stop iTunes from launching when you connect the phone stop automatic syncing.

I took a screenshot to demonstrate that the option has indeed been removed. Notice that I am using the most recent update. After I updated to 11.0.3 a week ago this issue started, and I noticed that the option to prevent iTunes from opening automatically (which had previously been in the spot you indicated in your screenshot) had been removed.

I could be persuaded that my application is corrupted, but would need to see you send a screenshot similar to the one you posted but with the version visible.

I have no idea why your options are different than mine. I am using an iPad - not an iPhone, but I thought that had no bearing on this at all. I really think that it should work the same way since they are both iOS devices.

I also tried this with my iPod Touch and I get the identical sceen that I am posting below. "Open iTunes when this iXXX is connected. I even turnd WiFi sync off and set my settings like yours and it still didn't show what you are seeing.

You are set to Manually Manage your phone. Look at the screenshot in this Apple kb article about using iTunes 11, with an iPod, iPad or iPhone.

I don't think you have been compromised but I can't explain why your iTunes Summary Page looks different than mine unless it correlates directly to an iPhone, but the link that I posted for you shows what the Summary Tab should look like and it looks just like mine. I searched for that kb article specifically because I saw that you manage songs manually in your settings.

Well, in fact the application stopped opening automatically for no reason that is clear to me. For about 5 days after I updated the software it opened automatically when I plugged in or unplugged my phone. Then it suddenly stopped. All I did between the last automatic open and the time that it ceased was, in the options window, uncheck the "manually manage music and videos" option and then check it again without clicking "apply" and also checking "sync only checked songs and videos" and unchecking again without clicking apply.

I can think of no reason why this would halt the automatic opening but it has definitely stopped. Yet I still don't have the option listed in the options window to "prevent itunes from opening automatically when device is connected."

This is all very strange to me but I can think of nothing to pursue it further.

Thanks for your attention on this problem, Demo.

I can't really recall now, but I thought that I played around with those settings and no matter what, I never saw the Option for Automatically Sync when Connected in iTunes.

I can't think of any reason why it would trigger that behavior and of the other 170+ views that this discussion has received, I suppose that nobody else had anything to offer either.

I can't think of anything else to pursue it further either and as long as it is working the way that you want it to work now, I can't think of any need to pursue it further.

I had the same problem with iTunes 11.0.4 and an iPhone 5 on Mac OS X 10.7.5; iTunes launched on every connect and there was no option to stop iTunes opening when the iPhone was connected on the summary page for me either.

I just wanted to say that checking then unchecking "manually manage music and videos" and "sync only checked songs and videos" without clicking apply as you mentioned trying also resolved this issue for me.

Thank you!
