iPhone 5 unlock status check question

I purchased a 16GB iPhone yesterday & the sales representative said the phone's factory unlocked! Now I checked on www.iphoneox.com using its IMEI number if the phone's really factory unlocked but all I came to know is that this iPhone is under a Contract which expires in 2015! Now what does this mean? I'm going back to my home country next month & will be using this new iPhone there on any network carrier, so how will I know if my iPhone is usable in that country on that network? I don't want to connect to iTunes & update my phone just to see it being locked on any carrier! Please let me know if I should take this phone to the shop from where I purchased & ask them to verify or take back and refund, or should I first confirm as I will be leaving this country next week!

Where exactly did you buy this phone?

That web site has absolutely no way to legitimately get any information at all regarding the state of the phone.

If you purchased it from Apple or an authorized source, you should have no need to ask this question.

What "shop" did you buy it from? And while you're at it, what country are you in?

I'm in Dubai, UAE right now and bought it from a well-known Electronic Shop here. Can I provide my IMEI number here for verification? And the sales rep said they sell only authorised factory unlocked Apple iPhones!
