Increase in Wired Memory with 10.8.3 Update

Ever since I ran the 10.8.3 Update (from 10.8.2) my computer has been using a lot more wired and active memory (especially from the kernel_task). I've tried just about everything -- I even did a clean reinstall of ML. I also completely wiped the hard drive prior to doing so. I ran Apple's hardware check and there were no problems. I also ran the complete suite of tests from TechTool Pro (memory test, surface scan of the hard drive, volume structures, video memory, file structures, disk permissions, etc) -- no problems. I've got 4gb of ram and its an early 2011 model. I understand that ML takes up a lot of memory...but it now takes up almost twice as much memory as it used to (now it uses about 2gb (wired + active memory)). Any ideas?

Thank!
