Q: iTunes does not play/recognize music at all.

I was using iTunes 10.7 (I think...whatever the latest version was prior to itunes 11) on my desktop PC (Windows 7) and it's now refusing to play any MP3s at all.

There are a couple of .wav files I have in my Library that are playing, but mp3s are being ignored.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes, rebooting, etc. with no luck. I have tried installing iTunes 11, which seems to have complicated matters, as mp3 files are now starting to have 0:00 as their playtime.

I have checked to see if my music is working on other computers and through other programs (Windows Media Player recognises mp3s I'm attempting to play through iTunes just fine) and I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to fix this.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello tpres4545,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you are having issues with the iTunes playing songs, you may need to create a new library, The following article will guide you though creating a new iTunes library.

The following article will assist with finding the music located on your computer.

Then all you have to do is add the songs into your new iTunes Library.

Adding music and other content to iTunes

Adding content on your computer to iTunes

iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.

    1. Open iTunes
    2. From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:

      Mac

    • Add to Library

      Windows

    • Add File to Library
    • Add Folder to Library
    1. Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add

If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.

    Regards,
