ipad 2 air print to HP: works on 2.4Ghz not 5GHz

I had trouble printing to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 from Safari. I couldn't find my printer. Then I remembered I connected to my 5GHz band of my dual-banded network, so I switched over to the 2.4GHz band, and it worked flawlessly.

So, I'm not sure if I have a question or a possible solution. Should the 5GHz band work the same as the 2.4GHz band on AirPrint? If not, then that may be the source of many ipad 2 printing problems and they may need to switch over to the 2.4 GHz band.

Sorry if this is a silly question/comment. It just made me happier when I figured out why my printer stopped working.

Hi tntdiehl,

First, no reason to be sorry, your question is not silly at all...

It is no related with AirPrint but with the network connection itself.

I afraid the only solution is to connect your iPad to the 2.4GHz network as the HP device uses:

A device operating at 802.11n 2.4GHz, cannot connect to another device operating at 802.11n 5.0GHz.

As you may find listed below, the HP device use 2.4GHz only:

Not all devices that support 802.11n support both frequency bands. So you can't connect a device that uses 802.11n 2.4GHz to a wireless router set to operate at 802.11n 5.0GHz only. All HP printers that support 802.11n use 2.4GHz only.
