I recently downloaded an application called detune from an unauthorsised developer. Since then, I find .ds store extension file on desktop and in almost every other folder. How do I permanantly remove these files and prevent them from re-appearing? Kindly help.

.ds_store, .Trashes and other files your seeing are actually part of OS X, just that they are hidden.
So uninstall the program and run thorough the Steps here to right your machine that's causing them to appear.
If you still have hidden ds store and other files appearing, then Tinkertool can turn off the invisible files again.

The purpose of the .ds_store file is to save personal per-folder settings like icon arrangement, column sorting, etc. That's why you don't want to delete them, just return them to their normally hidden state in OS X.
I used clean my mac and it worked perefectly. No more .ds_restore reappearing
