How to use Wake on Demand?

Hello,

I am trying to use the wake on demand feature to ssh from one mac to another while the targeted one is sleeping. According to this official page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3774 , i can do this even if i do not own a time capsule or a apple router, but alone with the apple tv. I have an iMac with 10.8.3 a macbook pro late 2012 with 10.8.3 and the last generation of apple tv, all connected to my wireless network that uses a generic modem/ router. I have wake on demand ON on both machines and i am trying to acces the macbook while it is sleeping by using 'connect to server: macbook_ip_address', which normally works if the macbook is not sleeping.

According to the link mentioned above, with my setup and without any other setting it should work. Any ideas?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
