how can i change where Itunes downloads IOS software updates

so here I am trying to update an Ipad from 3.2.1 to the latest IOS.

so I have to use Windows Itunes 11.0.3.42 on a networked Windows 7 PC.

Itunes tells me i have an update and starts to download it.

the default location for the download is my personal network folder.

this runs out of space.

helpfully, Itunes offers no option for changing the download location that I can see.

I have plenty of space for the download on my local hard drive, but Itunes doesn't want to let me use that.

is it really suposed to be this difficult?

many thanks

John

unfortunately, our network configuration doesn't allow me to do that.

if i could discover how big the download file is, that would help - there is an enforced quota of 1Gb on our network user filespace , but my current 500mb of free space is not enough for success.

however, I found a copy of the relevant download file at http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/02/download-ipad-firmware-ipsw/ , which I saved to my hard drive.

then, using shift-click at the ipad Update prompt in Itunes, I was able to run that file and so get upgraded.

thanks for your suggestions though ...
