My MacBook has just a grey screen and no keys are working ?

My MacBook turned itself off to a blank grey screen. When I turn it off and on all I get is a grey screen. I've followed all the support tips regarding holding down shift and c or v on startup but the keyboard doesn't seem to work, the screen does 't change ??
