Find my iPhone app used to be able to detect my laptop, but now it can't. Says it's "offline" but it's not. I have it on right now! Would appreciate any help to get it working again with all of my devices.

Try turning off Find My Mac on your laptop, then after a minute or so turn it back on.
How do I turn it off? Sign out then in again? Tried it, no difference.
Try going to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Find My Mac, restart your Mac, then go back and recheck it.
HAH! Followed your advice, turns out that Find my Mac was unchecked (not sure how that happened, I didn't uncheck it) and so I checked it and now it's working again. Thanks so much!

Kinda scary though. That's all a thief has to do to turn off Find my Mac 😟. Had another Macbook stolen 3 weeks ago and Find my iPhone app says it hasn't been online.
The reality is that Find My iPhone is designed more to help you find a misplaced device, or contact and honest person so they will return it, rather than help you recover a stolen one.
Gosh, you can't even sign out of your iCloud account without agreeing to deleting calendars and reminders! I thought that if I signed out of my iCloud account on my MacBook, that will prevent a thief from signing in again and turning Find my Mac off.
I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by singing out. If you sign out, this will turn off Find My Mac too since the iCloud account will no longer be active on your Mac. It isn't possible to be signed out of your iCloud account and still have Find My Mac active on it.
Just trying to figure out a way to prevent a thief from turning off "Find my Mac" on my Mac if he steals it!
Don't think you can. You could make it harder by making sure your user account requires a password, and that automatic login is turned off in System Preferences>Users & Groups. But a theif could still do a clean install of OS X, thereby erasing your settings.
