My iTunes won't open (MacBook Pro)

Try this, it worked.

1. Open terminal

2. Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"

That will uninstall your iTunes application. The icon in your dock shows '?'.

3. Then go to the Apple website and manually download iTunes from iTunes page.

4. Once package is downloaded, Install it and you are done.

Note - This do not affect your iTunes library file or your actual iTunes media.

when you reinstall iTunes, your iTunes library is intact and you can pick it up right where you left off.

Go to apple.com and look up itunes. Download it from there. I couldn't find it at the App Store. It would not let me darg the icon to "install", so I just clicked "install". Once you have installed it, restart your computer. If it won't restart, shut it down or turn it off with the button on the back (iMac) and then turn it back on. It worked for me.

Go to application folder, right click on the iTunes app and navigate to "get info', scroll to bottom and see if the following is set to: everyone = custom, system = read & write, wheel = read only, everyone = read only... you should be set

I have the same issue, except that I have MacBook Pro 15" Early 2011, OS X 10.9. I installed Mavericks, no issues for two weeks. I load iTunes 11.1.2 and now the issue is similar to above:

Suddenly starting today, my iTunes no longer opens. When I click on the iTunes icon in my dock, and the icon just bounces once and stops, never opening. I've also tried opening the application from my Applications folder, and as well as trying to open music files from the Finder. Nothing works. I've restarted multiples times. What could be the problem? Thank you.

Your recommendations do not work. I am unable to remove iTunes. The computer states that I can't remove iTunes because it is required in OS X. I have also restarted the computer several times (post-downloads, etc)

What can possibly fix the issue, short of erasing the memory ont he computer?

Had same symptoms for iTunes 11.2.2 on my MacBookPro 5,4. Deleting and reinstalling iTunes fixed it for me

So how do I go about deleting iTunes so I can reinstall?

I just had this happen under Yosemite. I have the latest iTunes 12.0.1, I even downloaded the installer and installed again. I can't delete it (OSX doesn't let me), I can't figure out how to launch iTunes anymore.

I am having the same issue after updating to Yosemite. iTunes won't launch, and I have the latest version installed. Whether I click on it on the dock, from Launchpad, or from Finder it still doesn't do anything. It worked just fine before Yosemite, so I'm assuming that Yosemite is the cause. I hope this is fixed soon. I need my iTunes.

After updating to Yosemite iTunes is not opening. No response from clicking the icon on the dock, spotlight, application folder or pressing play on the keyboard...

I'm having the same issues. My iTunes was updated before I installed Yosemite and now does not work.

Having the same issues. Updated to Yosemite. Trying to open itunes 12.0.1 and it is not. Trying to uninstall itunes , does not let me. Installing iTunes on top does not help either. Please help!

Downloading iTunes from apple and running the installer worked for me, I now have my dearly loved iTunes back, praise be. So strange as it had worked post OS X upgrade, and then suddenly stopped.
