Did you unlock System Preferences? What "mail is unchecked" are you talking about?

Everytime I open System Preferences then click on Icloud I note that the tick is missing from beside the mail icon so I re-tick it and close system preferences and the re-open system preferences and the box is unticked?

Its like System preferences does not save the setting?

That box is only functional if you have an iCloud mail account configured in Mail. If you are using some other email provider, then the box is of no use to you. Having iCloud does not mean you have an iCloud mail account setup in Mail. And, unless you want to use iCloud for your Mail, you should leave the box unchecked.

Yes that is the problem I do have an Icloud account and its not syncing with mail on my mac even though I have the account set up correctly.

The funny thing is Icloud is syncing and working fine on my Iphone and Ipad and also Icloud on the web is good it just seems to be an issure with mail on my mac.

    Thanks again.

    Cheers.

Can you be more specific about what isn't working? Can you receive mail? Can you send mail? How is your mail account configured in Mail? What version of OS X are you using?
